Music

The Music Program provides a broad range of opportunities for all students in a diverse range of musical genres and styles.

CLASSROOM MUSIC

Classroom Music is an elective subject in which students develop theoretical and practical skills. Music is offered as a classroom elective subject in Years 7 to 10 with a strong emphasis on performance (solo and ensemble), theory and composition (traditional and contemporary) through a range of music educational approaches.

The Certificate III in Music (Performance) course, delivered in partnership with COSAMP – RTO Code 41549, is offered in Years 11 and 12 which provides students with both the skills required for work beyond school and a recognised qualification that assists those looking to pursue future study of music at a tertiary or TAFE level. This course also provides students with many opportunities to perform, including at our contemporary music festival, SoNiC.

Across all years, the classroom curriculum engages students in a diverse range of musical genres and styles that helps them to develop a greater contextual understanding and deeper appreciation of music.

COLLEGE ENSEMBLES

College ensembles provide another layer to the Music Program and aim to extend on students’ classroom, instrumental and vocal learning. The College Chorale and Liturgical Music is open and encouraged for all students while the String Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble and Jazz Band are available on audition or selection. Students rehearse weekly in the Xanten Performing Arts Centre – Music Room.
