SOCIAL media circles are abuzz with audience recaps of last week’s St Norbert College production, Cinderella: The Enchanted Edition.
“It was spectacular – loved, loved, loved every minute of it. Such amazingly talented young people! I can not wait til the next one! Congratulations to everyone involved,” posted one fan.
“What a brilliant show! So much amazing talent!” added another.
“Absolutely amazing!!! Well done to everyone,” the reviews continued.
More than 50 people – students, staff and professional musicians – were involved in the production, performed at the College’s Xanten Theatre on May 5, 7 and 8 (two shows – matinee and night). There was a nervous wait during the lead-up when Perth’s snap lockdown was enforced just days out from the production. This time last year, the College was prevented from performing The Sound of Music, due to Covid-19 restrictions and uncertainty. But in a fairytale ending, Cinderella went ahead as planned.
Behind the scenes was an orchestra led by Mr Chadwick Beins plus all the crew supporting Miss Kerri Hilton as director. In an added treat for students, former students, staff and parents in the audience, the show included cameos from Principal Mr Simon Harvey, Head of House Mr Patrick Ah Fong, Deputy Principal Ms Sharon Rainford and set designer and teacher Mr Craig Mecham as well the Principal of St Joseph’s School, Mr John Rose.
“This production has been a rollercoaster ride,” Miss Hilton said. “Everyone has worked so hard since last year, hoping that the show would go on and not be cancelled again. We were determined to try and have a show and I am delighted that it is this show. A fairy tale has that touch of magic that we have all needed this year.”
