The St Norbert College Specialised Basketball Program.

Canons

Recently a new identity was developed for the St Norbert College sporting teams and in homage to a tradition began by Br Patrick in the 1990's, the name Canons was chosen · The Specialised Basketball program is the first to embrace this new identity and from 18 February 2013, the College Basketball teams will be known as the Canons.·  The name is derived from the Norbertine Canons, but the word is used to reference the 11th Century weapon (Cannon) that  dominated the worlds battlefields since its invention.

The Message:

  • For a Cannon to be effective it requires closely coordinated Teamwork,
  • Cannons were Innovations in technology that have Dominated since their inception,
  • Cannons are powerful and when working in numbers, they are almost Unstoppable.

The Program:

Supplementing the holistic education provided by the College, the Specialised Basketball Program at St Norbert College aims to:

  • Develop physical skills through weekly training sessions and maintaining high fitness levels through continued testing and intense training sessions.
  • Develop teamwork and interpersonal skills through work collaboratively to achieve and assist each others development.
  • Expose athletes to a variety of coaching from outside sources and the specialist PE staff
  • Provide all students with the opportunity to participate in the community competition to establish friendships with other students and work collaboratively with students across different year groups.
  • Develop knowledge of officiating and coaching by providing students with the opportunity to be BWA Accredited Level 0 officials and coaches
  • Given opportunities to represent the College in Interschool Competitions and encourage athletes to progress up the development pathway through to WABL and SBL and beyond.

Each week all students play for the Canons, at Leisurelife Centre in Victoria Park for boys on Saturdays, while the girls play at Ray Owen Basketball Stadium in Kalamunda on Monday nights.

If you think you have what it takes to be a Canon, we want to hear from you!
