| Year 11 - India |
|
The India ‘Pilgrimage of Hope’ is an amazing spiritual opportunity to recognize the face of Jesus in the poor and to discover the nature of our true selves. In January each year, a small group of St Norbert College students join with approximately sixty other young people from various colleges around Australia to travel to India and give service in Kolkata for three and a half weeks. Selected Year 11 students spend the preceding year preparing for this once in a lifetime experience. They work many hours in part time jobs to raise the money to go, but in addition they spend many hours fund raising to take a donation across to the people of India. In preparation, the students work with children with disabilities, in homes for the elderly and attend lectures on palliative care. Whilst in India, in association with Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity, the students serve orphaned children, “street” children, young people with disabilities, the sick, the dying and the destitute. They also meet important dignitaries and are encouraged to dialogue on global issues. Our aim is that their vision of themselves, others and their world is transformed into a more “Christ” like view.
